His “pillar saints”, the life-size sculptures on numerous advertising pillars in Düsseldorf, have long since become landmarks of the city. 11 sculptures are scattered throughout the city – no other sculptor is as present here as Christoph Pöggeler.
In cooperation with ZEIT, Galerie Kellermann is now presenting the most popular pillar saints for the first time as bronze sculptures in limited editions of 45 pieces. The Kiss, the Photographer and the Businessman, each sculpture appears as a hand-painted and patinated bronze measuring approx. 35 cm in height.
In addition to the new sculptures, the exhibition “Opera della Natura” will also showcase the artist’s significant painterly oeuvre with many new works. Christoph Pöggeler received one of the most important awards in North Rhine-Westphalia for his realistic-surrealist paintings in the form of the Rhineland Art Prize. His favorite materials are wooden finds such as building planks or the side walls of former shipping crates, which he transforms into works of art using paint and brushes. In doing so, he follows the lines and grains of nature and integrates them into his works in a way that is as surprising as it is grandiose.
