New Year’s exhibition “In the Year of the Dragon”
with works by Rupprecht Geiger, Günther Uecker, Otto Piene, Adolf Luther, Victor Vasarely and other classics of contemporary and modern art
19.01. to 24.02.
When the powerful dragon, the fifth Chinese zodiac sign, and the element wood – which stands for growth and development – combine in 2024, we can look forward to an eventful year full of prosperity and happiness.
In our New Year’s exhibition, we are dedicating ourselves to the “Year of the Kite” – first and foremost, we are showing Rupprecht Geiger’s art-historically significant red flying kite for the first time.
35 years ago, on April 1, 1989, a unique collection of artists’ kites took to the skies in Himeji, Japan, created by many of the most important artists of the time – from Niki de Saint Phalle, Victor Vasarely, Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Rauschenberg to Günther Uecker, Otto Piene and Rupprecht Geiger. These works then went on a 12-year tour of 15 renowned art museums around the world: Hiroshima, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Lisbon, Copenhagen, Berlin, Rome, Seville, Moscow, Montreal, Sydney, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
Rupprecht Geiger created one of the largest examples with his 4×4 m exciting “red dragon”. This important work will now be on display in our New Year’s exhibition – together with a much smaller kite created by Günther Uecker shortly after the ZERO group was dissolved. Because even though the ZERO group was already history, the ZERO idea was meant to fly!
We are also showing other classics of contemporary and modern art, with works by Victor Vasarely, Adolf Luther, Otto Piene and many more.
