In 2007, serious unrest, ethnic killings and expulsions took place after the parliamentary elections in Kenya. More than 2,000 people died and over 600,000 were displaced from their homes. Even 15 years later, during the 2022 elections, the memory of this national trauma is still very present. ‘Between Hope and Dispair’ shows the close connection between then and now.
The work shows the fine line between citizens‘ demands for change, politicians’ struggle for influence and the danger of historical repetition. Past and present merge.
