The eternal circle of life, transience and immediate rebirth – nothing less than life and death are the main themes of the South Korean painter Cloudy Leehyeon Shin. The young artist impresses with the precise painting technique she uses to compose her surrealistic-looking pictures.
In “Life and Death then Being” you see the artist herself lying dead in front of her hometown. Nevertheless, the scene appears happy, not a cause for sadness. Insects and microorganisms symbolize immediate recycling; every death creates new life. Moths are signs of metamorphosis and the transition from one world to another. A red specimen sits like a heart on the linen cloth, a green butterfly sits peacefully on its forehead.
