In Greco-Roman mythology, the maenad was a companion of the wine god Dionysus or Bacchus, usually depicted dancing. Markus Lüpertz’s clothing is reminiscent of the dancers of the Moulin Rouge. The maenad is in dynamic movement, full of joy of life.
