In her paintings, Lea Hoffbauer skillfully plays with the properties of oil and water-based painting media. Mixtures and layers of pigments, oils, minerals and inks create abstract images without a narrative. The artist is particularly interested in macro- and microscopic phenomena from biology and anatomy, which appear strangely beautiful and lie beyond the usual way of seeing.
The present painting is about the flowing and unfathomable. As in a swamp, planes, organic and inorganic elements and colors mingle to create an image that causes the eye to wander through its formlessness.
