Joseph Beuys

Cat.Rais. Schellmann 349

museum edition of 25 roman numbered from the portfolio “Schwurhand”

The work refers to the alchemy of the Middle Ages, in which attempts were made to produce gold from base metals (such as lead). According to Beuys, the artist is the alchemist par excellence: with his creativity he transforms mundane things and objects into valuable works of art. The depicted casting of a sculpture made of liquid gold is a symbol of the creative power of every human being.
