Jo Anneke Mückel alienates familiar everyday objects, such as a sewing needle, a safety pin, staples or paper clips, by changing their shape, size, structure and materiality. Although the works are simple, minimalist and greatly reduced, the monumental representation awakens new associations – the form is seen in a new light. The objects sometimes have a threatening effect, triggering both admiration and discomfort by removing the original handling.
