In her abstract expressionist paintings, Sonja Kalb focuses on the essentials – the color and its gradients. The artist deliberately avoids representation. Color contrasts, composition, lines and surfaces, structures, and textures are the elements from which Sonja Kalb creates her “color interweavings”.
Color worlds that always awaken new associations
Sometimes it is dynamic, abstract rhythms and emotions that make their way into red and orange compositions; sometimes the artist processes the impressions of a trip to Scandinavia in enchanting blue-green-silver variations in which the observer perceives the concentrated colors of the Nordic fjords and can almost “taste” it. Associations of water and land, of the setting sun, or reliving dream situations are immediately awakened. The flowing interconnections in Sonja Kalb’s pictures invite the viewer to let their thoughts wander – and lead to their own ideas:
“The best awards are reflected in the eyes and words of my buyers. It’s nice to create something lasting that makes people think.”
