Meet the artist: Sascha Nordmeyer

Artist of the New ZERO
In the tradition of the eternally young, globally active ZERO movement, the German-French artist Sascha Nordmeyer (*1977) deals intensively with light, reflection and shadow, with materiality and dimensions in his works. In our exhibition, we are presenting many of the artist’s new works on paper as well as his latest large-scale project.

An ode to light – Sascha Nordmeyer is the winner of an international competition for art in architecture
With his monumental sculpture model “Espace-temps”, Sascha Nordmeyer has won the international competition organized by the University Hospital of Reims in cooperation with PRISME. As the youngest participant, Nordmeyer convinced the jury with his design: three 5-metre-high steel sails symbolize hope and life, thousands of “micro-reflectors” penetrate the steel skin of the sculptures, creating an open space for encounters, transparency and reflection. The sculpture ensemble is intended to pay tribute to organ donors and recipients as well as doctors and healthcare staff. Depending on the light mood during the day or night, a space will subtly open up for visitors towards the sky and surroundings – an ode to light. The sculpture by Sascha Nordmeyer will be inaugurated on the forecourt of Reims University Hospital in the fall of 2025.

For the founders of the movement, ZERO already denoted a phase of transition and new beginnings, with the light symbolizing hope and strength. With his timelessly elegant works, Sascha Nordmeyer is a worthy successor, whose oeuvre takes up the basic idea of the ZERO movement and sets new accents in the spirit of the pioneers.

The artist will be available for an exciting discussion on the evening of the opening.
