The interplay of light and color in unique die-cuts
After a trip to Southeast Asia, Nordmeyer began designing objects and installations made of paper. Sascha Nordmeyer then achieved his artistic breakthrough with the “Espace-Temps” (Space-Time) series. In these optical-kinetic compositions, he transforms his very own form of stamping into light-active artworks of great timeless elegance.
Each work consists of hundreds or even thousands of stamped “reflectors”, which Nordmeyer first composes digitally and then presses by hand into the right angle and the desired three-dimensional shape.
The results are works that play with light and geometric-serial compositions in an idiosyncratic and highly elegant way. The artist is also increasingly implementing this principle in monumental formats and metal installations. In 2018, Sascha Nordmeyer used this technique to create a large spatial installation as part of the “Nuit Blanche” in the Ryosoku-in temple in Kyoto.
