Congratulations to Sascha Nordmeyer – winner of the international competition for the creation of a monumental sculpture at Reims University Hospital, France
With his monumental model ‘Espace-temps’, the Franco-German artist Sascha Nordmeyer (*1977) has won the international competition organised by Reims University Hospital in cooperation with PRISME. His work will be erected on the forecourt of the hospital and inaugurated at the end of 2024/beginning of 2025.
The work consists of an asymmetrical sequence of three slender and airy steel totem sails. These sails symbolise and honour the three groups that are essential for organ transplants, organ donors, the healthcare staff and organ recipients.
The 5 metre high and 3 metre wide walk-in installation is intended to serve as a kind of initiatory journey of reflection between life and death. The ‘skin’ of the sails, which consists of thousands of ‘micro-reflectors’, subtly reflects the colour tones of the surroundings, the people nearby, the sky, the light mood depending on the time of day or night – an ode to light.
