‘Me Twice’ is a very personal work: the artist is both sitting and carrying herself on her shoulders. The wearer is exhausted. Even if the dreamer’s goal is almost beyond her strength, she remains upright and carries her wherever she wants to go. The work thus shows the dichotomy between a light artistic vision and the hard work involved in realising it.
Matilde Romagnoli modelled the double self-portrait in the art foundry in Munich; the cast comes partly from the academy foundry and partly from the Munich art foundry. Both places have a special significance for the artist – places where she was able to learn bronze casting and develop artistically.
