In the portfolio “After 50 Years of Surrealism” Dali addresses the most important stages of his artistic life.
In “The Great Inquisitor Expels the Savior” he deals with his expulsion from the Surrealist group by André Breton. In the form of a Spanish inquisitor, André Breton throws the burning giraffe (Dali) out of the tower. For Dali, the giraffe was a symbol of innocence and naturalness. At the bottom right you can see the artist rushing to new shores – towards America to conquer the new world.
