Krowni

Edition:

In her works, Krowni deals specifically with pop culture, feminism, fluidity, post-binary identities and often invisible realities of life. The work “The three graces” shows a reinterpretation of the three graces known from Greek mythology. They are regarded as symbols of joy, beauty, the arts and fertility. In contrast to other well-known depictions, however, the figures here are not depicted undressed and rejoicing, but sitting languidly on the couch, bored by admiring glances.

“To be a woman is to perform” describes the need of many women to constantly stage themselves, to look at themselves from the outside and to mask themselves at the expense of their own identity. The pictorial figures defy these subconscious habits and resist the male gaze within a patriarchal society. The title alludes to the kind of condemnation that women and girls are subjected to as soon as they deviate from the expectations placed on them.
