Which images and scenarios are real? Which ones are pure fiction? In his artistic work, Linan Zhu deals with the complicated and multi-layered relationship between perceived images and reality, the increasing fusion of the virtual and the real.
Linan Zhu takes his inspiration from internet images and transforms them into sculptures and installations to create immersive and highly narrative environments. His goal is to immerse the viewer in a surreal environment. Unexpected discrepancies and provoked misunderstandings lead to the cognitive deconstruction and reconstruction of the scene, the discipline inherent in the image is dissolved and objective reality is blurred.
A variety of possible interpretations open up. Does the boy sit unsuspectingly like a fly in a carnivorous plant and is swallowed by it? Does he sit sovereign and secure on conquered nature? Or does the plant protect the boy like a canopy? Harmony or struggle for survival? Everything is possible.
