In her chimerical “Körperwesen” pictures, Nadja Lana makes reference to the relationship between man and nature, but also to the ancient world of myths and fables, in lusciously colorful panoptics. The ancient god Pan, for example, was a hybrid creature with a human upper body and the abdomen of a goat. Pan stands for unbridled joie de vivre, the joy of music and voluptuous debauchery – elements that can be found in many of Nadja Lana’s works.
In “Antibody Concentration” we see a female hybrid creature with the head of a fox, but also the head of a turtle against the blue of the water. In the old Indian fable of the fox and the turtle, the turtle is caught by the hungry fox, but the fox cannot penetrate the turtle’s shell. The turtle outwits the sly fox by suggesting that he soak his shell in the water of the river, where he naturally escapes. So even the cleverest fox finds his master …
