The interplay of light and color in unique die-cuts
After a trip to Southeast Asia, Nordmeyer began designing objects and installations made of paper. Sascha Nordmeyer then achieved his artistic breakthrough with the “Espace-Temps” (Space-Time) series. In these optical-kinetic compositions, he transforms his very own form of stamping into light-active artworks of great timeless elegance.
Each piece consists of hundreds or even thousands of stamped “micro-reflectors,” which Nordmeyer first designs digitally and then painstakingly presses by hand into the correct angle and the desired three-dimensional shape.
The results are works that play with light and geometric-serial compositions in an idiosyncratic and highly elegant way. The artist is increasingly applying this principle to monumental works and installations – for example, those made of metal. In 2018, Sascha Nordmeyer used this technique to create a large spatial installation as part of the “Nuit Blanche” in the Ryosoku-in temple in Kyoto.
