David Gerstein – world-famous creator of colourful 3D wall sculptures
David Gerstein (born 1944 in Jerusalem) is probably the world’s best-known painter and sculptor from Isreal to this day. He became world-famous in the 1980s and 1990s with his colourful wall sculptures made of moulded metal, assembled in several layers.
In David Gerstein’s multi-layered works, the boundary between the two-dimensionality of painting and the three-dimensionality of sculpture becomes blurred. His works are particularly captivating due to their vibrant colours and optimistic, lively aura. The central theme of his sculptures and objects is urban people in motion, alongside motifs from nature, music and sport.
Every Gerstein object is a handmade and unique
Gerstein’s wall sculptures create a unique effect thanks to their depth of space with light and shadow. The steel objects can be hung both indoors and outdoors and are hand-painted by the artist. This means that each sculpture is unique in spite of the edition.
